BGA, in collaboration with KG+D Architects, designed the 66,000-square-foot, two-story career and technical education facility at Dutchess BOCES Salt Point Campus, which received the 2025 Outstanding Project Award.

The project is the Dutchess BOCES Salt Point Campus, located in Poughkeepsie, New York.

School Profile

• Designed as a transformative hub for learning, the project unifies the Salt Point Center (Special Education), Career and Technical Institute, and Alternative High School in one purpose-built facility serving K–12 students across 13 Dutchess County school districts.
• The project also introduced a valuable community resource: a 170-seat conference center at the front of campus, it serves as a civic anchor for professional development and community events, accessible year-round to local districts and organizations.

BGA designed the building’s complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, including:

• High-efficiency secondary boiler plant
• VRF heat pump systems
• Energy recovery Ventilation
• Full Commercial Cooking Kitchen
• Data communications infrastructure
• Efficient LED Lighting and Control Systems
• Fire Alarm and Rescue Assistance Systems

The campus is a dynamic, high-quality, and future-ready environment that fosters student success.

Barile Gallagher & Associates, in partnership with Peter Gisolfi Associates, received the 2025 Outstanding Project Award from Learning by Design Magazine. The award recognizes their work on a newly constructed, seven-story, multi-level educational facility.

The project is the Academic Leadership Charter School, located in a transitioning neighborhood in the Bronx, New York.  Designed to serve a diverse and growing student population, the school provides a welcoming environment that supports learning, development, and long-term community impact.

BGA designed the building’s complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems, including:

• High-efficiency boiler plant
• VRF heat pump systems
• Chiller plant serving classrooms and large assembly spaces
• Data communications infrastructure
• Sound system and theatrical lighting
• Emergency generator providing full building backup power

The school provides a high-quality, enhanced learning environment that supports student success.

On March 27, 2026, BGA attended the AIAWHV EXPO, this year’s Expo was held at the Westchester Marriot in Tarrytown, NY.  It is the Chapter’s 90th Anniversary Milestone.

Vincent Restivo, Principal, Nick Pedlow, Associate and Sharmin Rahman, Senior Electrical Engineer connected with various architects and industry professionals, gaining valuable exposure throughout the event.  We are looking forward to our next Expo in October.

The AP Physics students walked up the field behind Katonah Elementary School, where three rigs and several trucks were parked. Loud releases of steam punctuated the steady rumble of engines. Already-dug geothermal wells were scattered about the school’s athletic field. The crew were actively drilling wells for the school’s new geothermal heating and cooling system.

Laurence Barile and Paul Gallagher of BGA described the process of determining how many geothermal wells the school would need for heating and cooling. “We dug a 500-foot-deep test well to determine the energy potential of the site,” he said. “We got lucky. We hit granite. Heat likes to go through that quickly.”

Ardsley High School Library Gets a Transformation

Barile Gallagher & Associates and Fuller & D’Angelo Architects were selected by the Ardsley School District in Westchester County, N.Y., for district-wide learning and infrastructure improvements. One of the projects was to transform Ardsley’s traditional high school library into a space that would be multifunctional, interactive and state of the art.

The team designed a Libramedia center within the parameters of an existing structure. By using elements such as glass wall meeting rooms, flexible furniture, reading lounges and robust wireless technology, the design creates spaces that are transparent, bright, inviting, comfortable, transitional and experiential.  Indirect lighting enhances the skylight atrium area, vibrant carpeting patterns and seating colors against a relatively neutral background results in a dynamically engaging space in which students collaborate and learn.  State of the art HVAC systems ensure the spaces are temperature controlled and well-ventilated keeping students and staff alert and comfortable.

The Justice Sonia Sotomayor Community School, a newly constructed, 82,000 sq ft, 4-story, all electric sustainable building — will house approximately 675 pre-K to 8.  The school will offer a medical clinic, dental and eye-care services, providing services to families in the community.

Barile Gallagher & Associates was an integral part of the school project team.  We assisted the district and our architectural partner, KG+G Architects, PC, with great emphasis on the quality of their learning environment and the community.  All new state-of-the-art high efficiency HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical systems complement the student learning experience.

Designing systems to operate buildings efficiently is a complex task. But the folks at Barile Gallagher & Associates Consulting Engineers, P.C., make the process easy for their clients by applying practical engineering solutions that bring their projects to life.

Laurence Barile, President of the firm, learned the importance of practical design from his father, Pat Barile and Pat’s partner, Tom Damiano, founders of the firm.

“They taught us that we don’t build theoretical structures; we build buildings that people have to live with and maintain for decades. You want solid calculations and a firm grasp of
the theory. But you must stand back and see the big picture. How is the building going to be used? How is the contractor going to install what you’re designing? How is the building owner going to maintain the systems?” says Laurence.
